Free clinic day 1 at KibaraniReport by Signe Møller, March 29, 2008 |
I have just spent a week in Kenya, meeting with our project partners and visiting the projects we coordinate and support. I spent the first 4 days with the children in Kibarani, with Michael Mazliah, the only sponsor of Kibarani right now, and our team on the ground, social worker Gilbert Shipeta and nurse Patricia Kaesa. What Michael has done for the Kibarani children over the course of the past 9 months, through relatively small monthly donations, 100% to the Children wish to applaud! Through the funds he and his family in England have provided, the children are getting one proper meal a day and our nurse Patricia, comes to Kibarani several times a week to treat the children and speak with the parents, who don't completely trust western medicin. It is really quite amazing how much so little can do, what a huge difference it means to the children and how it reaches out into the community too. ![]() Michael Mazliah with Kibarani children I also met with the Chief of Kibarani and Mikindani; Mr. Nassir Kipembe and one of the elders in Kibarani, and we are collaborating to involve the community even further in the future.
On saturday March 29, Michael Mazliah and 100% to the Children funded a 'free clinic- day', for children and adults at Kibarani. We made porridge for almost 130 children (they only ever get beans), everybody got juice and bisquits, and all the children were all treated for worms. App. 50 mothers were treated for different illnesses too, by the amazing effort of Patricia Kaesa, our nurse and her assistant Janet, who also cooked for the children.
For the children this was an encredible treat as saturday and sunday they usually go without food, and energy starts running low. For 100% to the Children, it was great to see so many of the parents there, and trusting us enough to let us treat them. For our work to be implemented the way we hope in the future, for the project to reach selfsustainablity and for the best results over all, we need the support of the parents in the community, and that process has now begun. • Support the Kibarani Dump Site Children and Nursery School |
