Free clinic day 4 at Kibarani

Report by Kathrine Predstrup, October 25, 2008
100procenttilbørnene

On Saturday October 25, 100% to the Children held our fourth 'Free Clinic Day' in Kibarani. The day before we took care of some food shopping, and in small groups we went to the dump as well as the village to let people know that they should drop by if they felt sick, and that their children could get a free meal.

The day went well and was well organized. One classroom was transformed into a clinic while the other one worked as an eating area and as a place for the children to get out of the sun.

Free Clinic Day 4

Three nurses, one head doctor and two nurse assistants participated voluntarily  in the clinic. We treated about 200 children for worms and gave them preventative malaria medicine. Apart from that, people were treated for diarrheic, sores due to burns and cuts, typhus, malaria, skin disease and sexually transmitted disease. About 200 hundred came to visit the clinic.

As usual, apart from the clinic, we served food to all the children who came. They had a solid meal consisting of rice and beans. About 150 children were fed. As always it was a joy watching the children eat. When all the children had been fed we could give the remaining 50 plates of rice and beans to the mothers waiting for treatment at the clinic.

Free Clinic Day 4

The children stayed all day and played. It was nice to see that they enjoy hanging out in the surrounding area even when they are out of school. They are starting to feel better even if there is still a long way before they will feel perfectly well. Especially because of the abandonment and the lack of proper nutrition they have experienced in their short lives.

Free Clinic Day 4

Once again we had lots of volunteers to help out during the day.  This time we had no foreigners apart from 100% to the Children (Signe and Kathrine), but only locals. It is great to experience time after time how the locals are so willing to help. Everything went peacefully, everyone was fed and the clinic only closed after the last patient had been seen and there was no more medicine.

Many thanks to: Sr. Patricia, Gilbert, Ruth, Margareth, Ann, Violet, Zebia, Paul, Janet, Jennifer, Catherine, Eric, Cleopha, Sr. Opiyo, Dr. Nwea, John, Harrison and Irene.

The day cost DKK 2250 ,-
