BACKGROUND
Japheth came from a poor background but with the support of an Indian businessman he received an education in a private school where he did so well that the other kids used him as 'consultant'. Japheth has worked in the hotel industry and has a degree in social community development. Japheth is living proof that being helped as a child works and we are impressed by his ambition on behalf of the kids, his structure and his faith that he can achieve his vision. We think the New Hope Children's Home will keep running no matter what, but it has the potential to grow and help many more in an efficient and loving way if the home had a more secure financial framework.

''Educating the children of Kenya: people will assist those who do well, I have to shape the children from a tender age.'' - Japheth

FACILITY SITUATION
During last year New Hope started constructing new buildings for a new school and orphanage on an open land in Mshmoroni. The school is now using the new buildings, even though it is not entirely done yet. They have rented a few extra buildings to fit all the classes in the new area until the school is finished. A church is now used as a classroom on weekdays and a church in the weekends. There is still some way before this enormous project is finish.

The orphanage is still placed in New Hopes old small building in the middle of Mshmoroni town. They will not be able to move the orphanage until the whole project is finished. They still need to build a first floor, which suit the orphanage and a dining area. It is an impressive project that Japheth is doing. He has for instants made a toilet and shower building with a water saving system that is used frequently at night by the children who live in the area.

In 2008 100% to the children collected money for a cow which will insure that the children in the orphanage can get milk every day. Beside that we have also contributed to the funding for buildings in the new school.

• We want to contribute to the achieving of selfsustanability by buying cows that produce milk thus generating an income for New Hope's children.

• We want to continue helping to raise funds for completing the construction of a fully-equipped children's centre and a school for providing primary and secondary education.

LONG TERM VISION
Japheths goal is to finish the construction of the school and the orphanage so there will be enough room for the children to play and learn. Therefore New Hope still needs funding and support on the project. He still needs around 350.000 Dkr. to finish the project. The money so far has mostly been donations from former volunteers who after returning to their homes have made collections for New Hope. Therefore the whole project is built in stages when the money is there.

To stay a year in the orphanage, go to school and get food cost approximately DKK 2500 a year. A child in primary school is DKK 315 a year and a child in secondary costs DKK 450 a year.
