Support children with special needs

In Mombasa we often meet children with special needs. They are disabled or need extra attention because of sicknesses they have endured. They can be handicapped as a result of polio or sick from umbilical hernias. In most areas the parents of these children do not receive the necessary information as to how to prevent disease or treat before it is too late. In addition they cannot afford to send their children to the hospital.

The special needs children are often worse off than other children and are in need of special care and treatment. They need help for surgery, physiotherapy, treatment and appliances to help them in their homes and everyday lives.

This group of children, YOU now have the opportunity to support.

Presently we support 2 children handicapped from polio, Emmanuel (age 5) and Hassan (age 4) both of them situated in Kibarani. they receive physiotherapy twice a week in a clinic and once a week a therapist comes to their homes to strengthen and retrain their muscles through exercises and appliances provided by us. By having the therapist come to their home, the parents of the children are also taught how to cope better with the challenges of the child.

The treatments cost app. 150 GBP/month.

Additionally we also offer treatment for the children with umbilical hernias, these children will receive surgery and follow up medical treatment, supervised closely by our nurse Patricia Kaesa.

The cost for these children vary according to age and how far the condition has progressed.
